These dainty white flowers in my flower bed are called baby’s breath. Its scientific name is Gypsophila paniculata. The cute little flowers of this plant are refreshing to look at and its white color is divine. Despite the delicate nature of this plant, they are easy to care for.
How to Plant Baby’s Breath
The first time I had these, I spread their seeds together with other flowers on my flower bed. I then covered it thin layer of garden soil. And, I just water the seeds every day. I have never fertilized them.

I was very happy when I first saw one flower bloom – it was cute! When a bunch of them bloomed, they were so charming and, add beauty to my flower bed along with other varieties of flowers. The plant was healthy too despite lacked of fertilization.
Pollinators Love The Flowers
The bees and butterflies are attracted to the flowers. Even the flies and other insects loved the flowers too! The nectar of this flower must be very tasty to them because the insects are on it every day.

Sunlight and Well-Drained Soil are Must
This dainty plant loves the sun and loamy soil. My flower bed is positioned in the most sunny part of the garden. Although this plant loves well-drained soil, it will flourish even more when watered daily.

What Month Do They Bloom?
Depends on your location. In my zone (zone 5) baby’s breath blooms from June to August.

Its white delicate flowers are perfect accents for bouquets or floral arrangements that are used in many special events such as weddings and parties.
Baby’s Breath Flowers Makes a Perfect Photography Subject
Another thing I love about baby’s breath is it makes a good subject for photography. I’m obsessed with taking pictures of the flowers. It makes a perfect background for greeting cards or book and magazine covers.

Is it Annual or Perennial?
This Baby’s Breath variety is Covent Garden which is annual. Other varieties are perennials.
Is Baby’s Breath Plant Invasive?
Not in my zone. But, it can be in some. If it’s invasive in your region, it is probably best to plant them in a container to prevent them from invading your lawn aggressively.
Is Baby’s Breath Flowers Toxic to Pets?
There is some contradicting information if it’s toxic or poisonous to pets. As far as I’m concerned, my dog had never a problem with this plant. But, I always keep an eye on my dog whenever he’s with me in the garden. If you suspect that your pet has ingested or is allergic to the flowers, take your pet to the veterinarian.
